About the Book

A crazed professor is on a rampage to prove that horrible crimes were committed by the ancient ancestors of today’s Pueblo Indians. His murderous accusations stir the community into anger and violence. Vacationing nearby, Mogi Franklin and his family are suddenly caught up in the turmoil roiling the countryside. In this third book of the exciting Mogi Franklin Mysteries, the young hero must find a sacred object hidden by the ancient people of Acoma Pueblo somewhere in the vast, forbidding lava beds of western New Mexico. To those who lived on the stark, high mesa four hundred years ago, it held a magic that could defeat the Spanish conquistadors despite their steel and steeds. To Mogi, it was an ancient mystery he must solve to stem the rising tide of bloodshed. But the clock is ticking, and his deranged adversary traps Mogi, Jennifer, and their friends in the absolute darkness of an underground cavern, with little hope of escape.

About the Author

Donald Willerton was raised in a small oil boomtown in the Panhandle of Texas, becoming familiar through family vacations with the northern New Mexico area where he now makes his home.

After earning a degree in physics from Midwestern State University in Texas and a master’s in computer science and electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico, he worked for Los Alamos National Laboratory for almost three decades.

During his career there, Willerton was a supercomputer programmer for a number of years and a manager after that for “way too long,” and also worked on information policy and cyber-security.

He finds focusing on only one thing very difficult among such varied interests as home building, climbing Colorado’s tallest peaks, and rafting the rivers of the Southwest (including the Colorado through Grand Canyon). Willerton also has owned a handyman business for a number of years, rebuilt old cars, and made furniture in his woodshop.

He is a wanderer in both mind and body, fascinated with history and its landscape, varied peoples and their cultures, good mysteries, secrets, and seeking out treasure. Most of all, he loves the outdoors and the places he finds in the Southwest where spirits live and ghosts dance. Weaving it all together to share with readers has been the driving force of Willerton’s writing over the past twenty years.

Praise for
The Hidden River

A fun and educational read, perfect for all ages. This is the first book I read in this series (but definitely not the last, as I plan on reading the whole series), and it was a very fun read as a stand-alone. There’s a lot of secrets and ancient mysteries to uncover, and fun tidbits to learn. Finally, the descriptions of the southwest are absolutely beautiful.

___________

This is another fascinating book in this series! Having grown up in the Southwest I find these stories especially interesting! Easy to read and very entertaining.
—Jeffry C. Shepherd
___________

The history of the Southwest is brought to life in this mystery. In a battle of cultures and ancient disputes, the descendants of the Conquistadors and Pueblo Indians of New Mexico must deal with an agitator who stirs up animosity over gruesome and gory ancient customs. The resulting bloodshed can only be stopped if Mogi Franklin can solve an ancient mystery.
—R. Montz
___________

Although this delightful story is about a mysterious object of power, Mr. Willerton has shown what power and wonder can be delivered by the telling of a good yarn! Another fun read for the whole family.
—Charles McCown
